Ourselves

Our History

It all started back when Thomas Henry began farming as a young man. With only 200 acres of land he farmed wheat and alfalfa. He did not even have a tractor, but used horses instead. Horses that were strong and had names like "Pet" helped with plowing, mowing, and all the tasks needed to run the little farm.

He did not have any brothers or help besides a few laborers to get the work done.

When it was time to harvest the wheat, he'd cut the wheat by hand, stack it into a big pile, then feed it manually with a pitchfork into a stationary thresher.

Thomas Henry liked to keep things tidy and in order (an important quality for a farmer of those times). He used what he called a "Harness Room" to keep his tools and supplies neatly organized and cared for. He would often say, "A place for everything and everything in its place."

It was not until later in his life that he was finally able to get a tractor to help him with the farming. The tractor was a 1930 International Harvester. The tractor was simple compared to those used today; it had no power take-off, no hydraulics, and no GPS.

His very first farmland acquired is still right where our farms stand today.
